Pericles Cheng is the mentor of the FIRST Global Challenge Team Cyprus. He was born in Limasol and received his Bachelor of Science in Computer Science as well as his Master of Science in Computer Science from the University of Texas at Austin. In 2017 he completed his doctoral degree in Information Technology from Walden University with an emphasis on educational robotics.
Pericles works at European University Cyprus as a lecturer in Computer Science. He began working with robots when he formed the university robotics club and then started training teachers in the use of robotics in schools after receiving a grant from the Computer Science for High Schools (CS4HS) initiative in 2014.
In 2015, Pericles began teaching a group of 10 high school students in robotics. The students went on to win several national competitions such as WRO Cyprus in 2015, WRO Cyprus 2016, and Robotex Cyprus 2017.
In 2017, Pericles led the first team to participate in FGC2017 in Washington, D.C. and this year he is mentoring the 2018 Cyprus team.
